Description

This is a global swimming and paddling virtual event during the month of July and culminating on World Drowning Prevention Day (July 25).

Participants around the globe will compete in the World Drowning Prevention Day Got2Swim and Paddle Quest as they swim and paddle during July and on World Drowning Prevention Day (July 25).

The goal is to raise awareness and funds for drowning prevention by mobilizing swimmers and paddlers all over the world to participate.

We will flood social media with drowning prevention and water safety messages as our participants swim and paddle- showing the world that together we can prevent drowning. One mile at a time.

WHY? Because Drowning is a PREVENTABLE global epidemic.

Each year, over 236,000 people around the world are lost to preventable drowning.

All ages.

All races.

All genders.

All socioeconomic levels.

All kinds of water.

The Got2Swim and Paddle is conducted at the participants' preferred location and in the water of their choice (pools, lakes, rivers, oceans)

Participants choose their distance (1 mile, 5K, 10K, Half Marathon 13.1 miles, Marathon 26.2 miles or another distance) – completing it all at one time or throughout July, ending on July 25th (World Drowning Prevention Day)

Participants are required to pay a registration fee and can choose to raise pledges  by setting up an Athlete Ambassador Pledge page to collect donations to support Colin's Hope and its year round water safety drowning prevention initiatives. All participants will receive a special Colin's Hope Athlete Ambassador Swim Cap.  Pledge raisers can earn prizes if they raise over $250  **Donations made to a registered participant's Athlete Ambassador pledge page are tax-deductible. Donors will receive an automated receipt at the time of donation.

It is important to connect participants to the cause, each athlete is encouraged to swim in honor of a person who has lost their life to a fatal drowning or survived a non-fatal drowning. You can read some of the stories in the Families United Not One More Stories Collection here (scroll to the bottom of the page for an electronic book).
