This weekend we completed with my son Martín the 10 K Swim Relay in Lake Travis * Austin TX
We swan in honor of Jayce 18 months old boy who drown after climbing over the gate and getting into an unsupervised pool.
Living in Texas made me aware of the need to improve water safety in Texas. The Texas Department of Family & Protective Services tracks fatal drownings of children, age 17 and younger, in Texas. Sadly, in 2016 there were 107 fatal drownings, up 43% from the previous year. So far in 2017, there have been at least 74 fatal drownings. It is estimated that are 6-7 times more non-fatal drownings than fatal drownings.
