This Sunday, Jaime is swimming 10k and Vickie will be paddling next to him as his water guardian in the Colin's Hope Got2Swim event. Jaime was introduced to swimming by his mother early in life. He swam competitively through high school and then as a Modern Pentathlete (swimming, running, show jumping on horse, fencing, and pistol shooting) and triathlete. Vickie started swimming lessons early at the YWCA and became a lifeguard as a teenager. Vickie and Jaime met as lifeguards at the Trinity University pool in 1990. As a couple and with their 2 children, they have enjoyed water sports including water skiing, windsurfing, wake boarding, sailing, kayaking, and swimming. Although they did not know the Holst family at the time, they were at the pool on the tragic day that Colin drowned. Out of that great tragedy, they have been honored to work with Colin's Hope (Jaime is a board member) to raise water safety awareness and to support programs that further the goal of drowning prevention.
