Hi Friends-
Did you know that 90 Texas children have already lost their lives to a fatal drowning this year? Or that almost 7x as many have survived a non-fatal drowning incident? This has to stop.
These drownings are PREVENTABLE, yet DROWNING IS STILL THE NUMBER 1 CAUSE OF UNINTENTIONAL INJURY RELATED DEATH FOR CHILDREN UNDER 5 and A LEADING CAUSE FOR AGES 1-14.
Our awesome family of swimmers (Keri, Alissa, Hanna (12) and Ella (11)) will be jumping into the lake together on Thursday, September 1 to swim in the Colin's Hope Got2Swim Lake Austin 10K. We will relay together as Athlete Ambassadors to prevent drowning. Maddie (10) will be our head cheerleader and will greet us at the swim finish!
We will raise at least $2000 this year for Colin's Hope. These funds will mean that more Preschool children can get swim safety classes and swim lessons, more families will receive water safety education and that life jacket loaner stations as area lakes will be re-stocked.
Here we are and here's why we swim!
Hanna's message: I'm Hanna Rimel, a 12 year old girl. I am a swimmer, and I believe everyone should understand water safety. Last year, I swam for Brody M. and will swim for him again this year. Thank you for supporting me!
Ella's message: Hi! I'm Ella and I'm 11. I'm swimming this year because I want to swim and raise money for Colin's Hope. I'm also excited to swim for Abbey Taylor (www.abbeyshope.org) and I think people should think about water safety and drain entrapment. Thanks for helping us out!
